Viola Lucille Bulman

  HAVRE - Viola Lucille Bulman, 90, a longtime Hill County Educator, died

Thursday at a Missoula nursing home of natural causes.

  Her funeral is 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, with burial

in Highland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church

of Havre or the Hill County Senior Citizens Center.

  Bulman was born Feb. 18, 1905, in Glendorado, Minn. She moved with her family

to Fresno in 1912. She graduated from Havre High School and attended Normal

College in Dillon.

  In 1927 she married Tom Bulman. She began her teaching career in Fort

Assiniboine and taught in Rural Hill County and Havre public schools 37 years.

She was appointed Hill County Superintendent of Schools and supervisor of

correspondence.

  She also served as truant officer of Havre public schools. In 1952 she and

her son, Donald Bulman, graduated from the University of Montana. Her husband

died in 1977.

  Survivung are two sisters, Margaret McNicol of Great Falls and Ada McNicol of

San Anselmo, Calif.; five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

  Her son died June 22.

V. LUCILLE BULMAN

  MISSOULA - V. Lucille Bulman, 90, a longtime Hill County educator, died July

13 of natural causes at Hillside Manor in Missoula.

  Born Feb 18, 1905, in Glendorado, Minn., to James and Lenora Jeanette

Holsapple, Bulman moved with her family to Fresno, Mont. in 1912. She ayyended

State Normal College in Dillon the summer following her graduation from High

School.

  That fall, at the age of 18, Bulman began her teaching career at Fort

Assiniboine.

  On Dec. 21, 1927, she married Tom Bulman.

  Bulman taught in rural Hill County and Havre public schools for nearly 37

years. During her career in education, she was appointed Hill County

Superintendent of Schools and Supervisor for correspondence for Hill County. A

pioneer in special education in Montana. Bulman also served as truant officer

for Havre Public Schools.

  A highlight of her life was graduating from the University of Montana with

her son Donald in 1952. She earned a B.S. degree.

  She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Daughters of the American

Revolution, Rebekak Lodge, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Hilltop Home

Demonstration Club.

  Bulman was preceeded in death by her husband, Tom, who died in 1977, her son,

Donald, who died June 22, 1995, her parents, three sisters and four brothers.

  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Johanna of Missoula; two sisters,

Margaret McNicol of Great Falls and Ada NcNicol of San Anselmo, Calif; a

sister-in-law who was as close as a sister, Helen Holsapple of Havre; five

grandchildren, Donald Jr. and wife Colleen of Trego, Mont., Tom of Missoula,

Scott of Portland, Ore., Robin and husband Youngho Lee of New York City, and

Susan and husband Tom Vandel of Portland, and their daughter, Ruby.

  Services will be at the Holland & Bonine Funerial Home, followed by a

reception in the First Presbyterian Church in Havre. Services are scheduled for

10 a.m., Tuesday, July 18, at Holland & Bonine Funeral Home in Havre. Burial

will follow at Highland Cemetery in Havre.

  Bulman's family requests that memorials be donated to the First Presbyterian

Church in Havre, or the Hill County Senior Citizens Center.
