Verna R. Rafter

  HOGELAND - Verna R. (Jensven) Rafter, 79, died of natural couses Thursday at

a Lewistown nursing home.

  Her funeral is 2 p.m. Saturday at Hogeland Lutheran Church, with burial in

Wing Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials are suggested to the church.

  She was born June 27, 1917, in Homestead, and attended schools in Canada,

Montana and Washington. In 1929 her family moved to Hogeland, where they

operated  the Hogeland Hotel. After graduating from high school there in 1936,

she attended nurse's training in Havre and worked for the Harlem post office

for two years. In 1944 she married Ordway "Bud" Rafter in Great Falls. She was

active in the family farm before retiring in 1990 and moving to Lewistown.

  Survivors include her husband of Lewistown; a daughter, Lynette of Lewistown;

two grandchildren and two stepgrandchildren.

  A son, Lee Rafter, died in 1994.

  HOGELAND - Verna R. Rafter, 79, died Thursday, Aug. 29, 1996, at the Central

Montana Skilled Care Center in Lewistown of natural causes.

  Rafter was born June 27, 1917, at Homestead, Mont., to Oscar and Annie

(Olsen) Jensven. She attended schools in Climax, Sask., and various

schools in Montana and Washington before moving Hogeland in 1929 where her

parents owned and operated the Hogeland Hotel.

  She graduated from Hogeland High School in 1936 and attended nurses training

in Havre before returning home to help her parents. She worked two years in

Harlem at the U.S. Post Office.

  She married Ordway Rafter on Oct. 17, 1944, in Great Falls.

  She has been active in the family farm until semi-retiring and moving to

Lewistown in 1990.

  Rafter is survived by her husband, Ordway "Bud" Rafter of Lewistown, one

daughter, Lynette and husband Brian Sallee of Lewistown; two grandchildren and

two step-grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by one son, Lee Rafter, in 1994; one brother; and

her parents.
