Ruby T. Olson, 89, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, March 1, 1998, at Sweet Memorial Nursing Home in Chinook. Funeral services will be today (Wednesday), March 4, 1998, at 10:00 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church in Chinook with Pator James Johnason officiating; Linda Haugen as organist; Ken Overcast as vocalist. Ushers are Gary Smith and Mel Anderson. Pallbearers in Chinook are Don Berger, Russell Skones, Jack Sattleen, Gordon Treftz, Martin Williamson, and Ken Kuhr. Pallbearers in Lewistown are Keith Arntzen, Robert Ehlert, Jack Donisthorpe, Chuck Butler, Ty Leonard and Mike Donsbach. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. in Lewistown City Cemetery, Memorials may be sent to the American Lutheran Church in Chinook or Winifred. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook and Creel Funeral Home of Lewistown.
Ruby was born to John and Mollie (Oberg) Johnson on December 29, 1908, in Harmony, MN. The family moved to Plentyeood, MT in 1910 and she graduated from Plentywood High School in 1926. She was confirmed in the Plentywood Lutheran Church on August 27, 1922.
In 1928 Ruby recieved a Teacher's Certificate in Kindergarden and Primary from Winona State Teacher's College in Winona, MN. She attended two years of music school at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1960 fron Northern Montana College in Havre. She was a school teacher from the early 1930's until 1966, teaching in Plentywood, Winifred and Roy, Montana.
On June 24, 1933 Ruby married Tex Olson in Harmony. They purchased a ranch in Fergus County and has owned the ranch for over 65 years. She was a member of the Winifred Garden Club, the Winifred and Chinook American Lutheran Churches. In 1981 Ruby moved to Chinook to be close to her daughter Nancy Doughten.
Ruby is susvived by her daughter, Nancy Doughten of Chinook; one son, Bob Olsen of Moore; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.
