years, 4 mos, and 3 days. The wife and six children survive him. The funeral

Came to Hancock County in 1868
located in Amsterdam twp - the wife and family
following him the next year, since
which time their residence has been in that township. Mr Thomas can be called
one of the pioneers of this county and was therefore doubtless as well known as
well known as any resident of the county. The esteem in which he was regarded
may be judged from the fact that about 500 paid their respects in attendance at
the funeral. 117 carriages making the procession near to a mile in length
escorted the remains to the Britt cemetery where the burial was made.
Mr Thomas was a member of the Order of Modern Woodman and most brotherly
were their devotion in the sickness

by the contribution of $2000.00, the amount of insurance in the Woodman Order
carried by the deceased.
