Deaths
Claire T. Red Sohm, 77, Big Sandy, formerly
of Havre, died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at a Big Sandy medical center due to
complications of cancer. Rosary will be 7:30 p.m. Friday and funeral Mass will
be 11 am. Saturday with Father Pete Guthneck officiating, both at St. Margaret
Marys Catholic Church in Big Sandy. Burial with military honors will be 2:30
p.m. ~, Saturday
at highland Cemetery in Havre. A full obituary will follow.

BIG SANDY --
World War II Army veteran Claire "Red" Sohm, 77, of Big Sandy, a
retired grain buyer and hail insurance/grain bin agent of Big Sandy, died
Tuesday at the Big Sandy hospital of natural causes.
A rosary vigil
is 7:30 tonight at St. Margaret Mary's Catholic Church in Big Sandy. His
funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial with military honors at
2:30 p.m. in Highland Cemetery in Havre, followed by a fellowship at the church
in Big Sandy. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre is handling the
arrangements.
Survivors
include his wife, O'della Sohm of Big Sandy; a son, Jim Sohm of Duvall, Wash.;
a daughter, Vicki Pfeiffer of Havre; a brother Duane Sohm of Havre; a sister,
Bonnie Barkmeier of Lake City, Iowa; four grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Claire Red Sohm, 77, retired grain buyer and hail insurance and grain bin
agent of Big Sandy died Tuesday, July 2, 2002, at a Big Sandy hospital of
natural causes.
Rosary Vigil
will be at 7:30 p.m. today at St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church in Big Sandy.
Funeral service is at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church
in Big Sandy with the Rev. Pete Guthneck officiating. Burial with full military
honors will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Highland Cemetery in Havre.
Fellowship to follow Funeral Service at St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church in
Big Sandy.
Red was born
on Feb. 23, 1925, in Danbury, Iowa, to Frank and Leonella (Dirkx) Sohm. In
1933, his family moved to Kremlin to farm, where he attended school. Red joined
the Army in 1943 and served his country during World War II in Germany. He was
honorably discharged in March 1946.
On May 24,
1948, Red married Odella Brower at Great Falls. To this union, two children
were born. He was a grain buyer working at Centennial Mills in Havre and Big
Sandy for more than 30 years. He was a hail insurance and grain bin agent as
well.
He was a
lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the
Knights of Columbus.
He was
preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Leonella (Dirkx) Sohm; brothers,
Vernon, Leon and Gene Sohm
He is survived
by his wife, Odella Sohm of Big Sandy; brother, Duane Sohm of Havre; sister,
Bonnie Barkmeier of Lake City, Iowa; son, Jim Sohm of Duvall, Wash.; daughter,
Vicki Pfeiffer of Havre; grandsons, Brad Pfeiffer of Missoula, Chad Pfeiffer of
Havre, and Jeremy Sohm of Bozeman; one granddaughter, Angie Sohm of Duvall,
Wash.; one great-grandson, Nicholas Pfeiffer of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous
nieces and nephews.
Memorials in
Reds honor may be made to: The Big Sandy Ambulance, Big Sandy, MT 59520; Big
Sandy Medical Center, Big Sandy, MT 59520; St. Margaret Marys Catholic Church,
Box 20, Big Sandy, MT 59520; or to the memorial of a persons choice.
Services and
arrangements are under the direction of the Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in
Havre.
