Roy A. Leamer

 

HAVRE -- Roy A. Leamer, 77, a retired Burlington Northern machinist and Navy veteran, died of natural causes Wednesday at a Havre care facility. A graveside service with military honors is 4 p.m. Friday in Highland Hill County Cemetery. Holland and Bonine Funeral Home of Havre is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include daughters Diana Fanning and Kathy Couch of Havre; a son, Larry Leamer of Graham, Wash.; a brother, Lester Leamer of Casa Grande, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian (Campbell) Leamer; and a grandson.

ROY LEAMER


Leamer in 1943

Roy A. Leamer, 77, retired machinist from the Burlington Northern Railway, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2003, at a Havre care facility of natural causes.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Highland Cemetery with Ila McClenahan officiating.

Roy was born Nov. 30, 1925, to Vernon and Minnie (Binger) Leamer in Spokane, Wash. He attended schools in the Spokane area and completed his education at Roger's High School.

In 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving in the South Pacific. While in the Navy, he served aboard the USS Melvin, USS Appalachian and USS Prairie. He

was awarded the Pacific Area Campaign Medal with eight stars, Philippine Liberation Medal with two stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

In 1948 he went to work for the Great Northern Railway in Spokane, Wash. In 1949 he transferred to Havre where he met and married Marian A. Campbell July 2, 1950.

Roy retired from the railroad in 1990 after 42 years of service.

In his spare time, Roy enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, tying flies, working in his yard, baseball, walking, and especially John Wayne movies.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Minnie (Binger) Leamer; wife, Marian (Campbell) Leamer; and grandson, Brian Fanning.

Survivors include his daughters, Diana (David) Fanning and Kathy (Gary) Couch both of Havre; son, Larry (Karen) Leamer of Graham, Wash.; brother, Lester Leamer of Casa Grande, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials in Roy's honor may be made to the Community Fitness Park, c/o K. Richardson, P.O. Box 1231, Havre, MT 59501.

Services and arrangements are under the direction of Holland and Bonine Funeral Home in Havre.
