MYRON H. "WHITEY" OPHUS

 

  HAVRE - Myron H. "Whitey"  Ophus, 72, died of cancer Thursday at his home in Havre.

  His funeral is 2 p.m. Tuesday at Van Orsdel United Methodist Church in Havre followed by burial with military honors at 4 p.m. in the Big Sandy Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion or Veterans of Foreign Wars Scholorship Fund or the Bear Paw Hospice. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.

  He was born Oct. 1, 1927, at the family farm near Big Sandy. He attended schools in Big Sandy and joined the Marines in 1945.

  In 1949 he returned to Big Sandy to fsrm and also purchaced Carssows CVonfectionery.

  He married Lynn Hughes on Oct. 1, 1957, in Scobey.

  He sold the farm that same year and bought Bear Paw Chrysler Motors in Havre. He also sold real estate, worked for Montana Human Resources Development Council and invested in several rental units. Fo the past 10 years, they spent winters in Phoenix.

  He was a member of the American Legion, Optimists, Eagles and Elks.

  He was active in the Canadian U.S. Friendship Days in Havre and enjoyed playing cards, fishing, hunting, camping, watching television and gardening.

  Survivors include his wife of Havre; sons, Myron H. Ophus Jr. of Spokane and Byron L. Ophus of Havre; brothers, Alfred Ophus, Lawrence Ophus and Lyle Ophus, all of Big Sandy, Ben Ophus of Hinsdale, Vernon Ophus of Arvada, Colo., and Lester Ophus of Havre; and sisters, Evelin LaBuda and Ruth Prgar of Big Sandy, Jeanine Lequin of Great Falls and Loretta Murphy of Reno, Nev.
