Melvin L. Hoppe
LOVES PARK -- Melvin "Mel"
L. Hoppe, 74. of Loves Park died Saturday. April 22, 2000, in OSF
St. Anthonv Medical Center in
Rockford.
He was born July 23, 1925, in Schapville to Henry and Elizabeth (Brandt)
Hoppe. On April 2. 1949. he and Vivian G. Hollman were married in Rockford.
During World Wai II and the Korean War, he served in the Army.
He was a scale mechanic at Kelly-Springfield Tire Co. In Freeport for 20
years prior to his retirement in 1987.
His memberships included Grace Lutheran Church and Clifford E. Johnson
Veterans of Foreign Wars
Post 9759.
Surviving are his wife: one daughter, Karen (Mark) Newton ot Rockford:
one son, Alan (Rhonda) Hoppe of Machesney Park; five grandchildren, Amy. Aaron
and Nathan Newton, and Kristin and Kyle Hoppe: one sister. Ledora (Marvin)
Williams of Schapville; three brothers. Irvin (Dorothy) Hoppe of Clearwater, Fla.,
Clyde (Barb) l-loppe of Scales Mound and Carlyle (Bonnie) Hloppe of New Mexico;
and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents and three brotheis. Harvey, Glen
and Laurence Hoppe.
The funeral will he at 10 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Funeral Home in
Rockford with the Rev. Robert
Driver-Bishop officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
A memorial fund has been established for Grace Lutheran Church.

1925, in Schapville, 111., son of Henry and Elizabeth Brandt Hoppe. Lived in
Rockford since 1946. Veteran of World War 11 and the Korean conflict, serving
in the U.S. Army. Married Vivian G. Hoffman in Rockford on April 2,1949.
Employed as a scale mechanic by Kelly-Springfield Co., Freeport, for 20 years,
retiring 1987. Member of Grace Lutheran Church and Clifford E. Johnson VFW Post
9759. Survivors include wife, Vivian; daughter, Karen (Mark) Newton of
Rockford; son, Alan (Rhonda) Hoppe of Machesney Park; five grandchildren, Amy,
Aaron and Nathan Newton and Kristin and Kyle Hoppe; sister, Ledora (Marvin)
