Margaret E. Cuts The Rope

 

  HAYS -- Margaret Elizabeth (Hickey) Cuts The Rope, 70, a school teacher and college professor from Hays, died Friday at a Havre care facility of natural causes.

  A wake/rosary is 7 p.m. Monday at St. Paul's Mission recreation center in Hays. Her funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's, with burial in Cuts The Rope Cemetery west of Hays. Edwards Funeral Home in Chinook is handling the arrangements.

  Survivors include daughters Edna L. Cuts The Rope of Billings, Thelma J. Cuts The Rope of Oklahoma and Delina M. Cuts The Rope of Hays; sons Jauquene Paul Cuts The Rope of Great Falls and Catcher Cuts The Rope of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; a brother, John Hickey Jr. of North Adams, Mass., and three grandchildren.

  She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Cuts The Rope

HAYS - Margaret E. Cuts The Rope, 70, died April 19, 2002, at the Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

Rosary and wake services will be 7 p.m. Monday, April 22, in St. Paul's Recreation Center. Mass will be recited at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, in St. Paul's Catholic Church with burial following in the family cemetery west of Hays. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.

Margaret Cuts The Rope

 

  Margaret Elizabeth (Hickey) Cuts The Rope, was born April 6, 1932 to Delina M. Bachand and John Hickey, Sr. both of North Adams, Massachu­setts. A Rosary and wake was held Monday April 22, 2002 at 7 p.m. in the Saint Paul’s Recrea­tion Center. Funeral mass was recited on Tuesday April 23, 2002 at 11 a.m. in Saint Paul’s Catholic Church. Burial fol­lowed in the Cuts The Rope Fam­ily Cemetery west of Hays. Ar­rangements were by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

  Margaret grew up experienc­ing both her parents French and Irish heritage. She was raised and attended grammar school and graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Massachusetts. She graduated from Fairfield Uni­versity with a degree in History and minor in English and later obtained a Masters Degree. Mar­garet started her teaching career in New York, where she taught English, Speech and Drama to high school students.

  In 1969 she moved to Mon­tana as a Jesuit volunteer for the St. Paul’s Mission School in Hays. While under her volunteer-ship in Hays she married Clarence Cuts The Rope on April 11, 1972 in Hays. The couple lived in the area and made their permanent home west of Hays.

  Margaret’s teaching jobs and Clarence’s art work took them to many different communities in­cluding Cleveland, Lewistown, Landusky, Hays/Lodge Pole, Hi-line communities from Chester to Gildford, where she was the Catechism School Coordinator. She taught at the Ft. Belknap College. While at Lewistown, she commuted to teach at Stone Child College at Rocky Boy. Margaret taught K- 12 in one room school house’s and towards the end of her career she was sub­stitute teaching at Dodson Public Margaret loved to teach in any form, she enjoyed visiting and listening to her mother-in-law, Matilda, tell old stories. She was an avid history buff and had a strong interest in the GrosVentre and Assiniboine people. Marga­ret enjoyed reading, playing cards, crossword puzzles and spending time with her family. She never left Clarence’s side, they were always doing every-thing together.

  Margaret is survived by daughters Edna L. of Billings, Thelma J. of Oklahoma, Delina M.            of Hays; sons Jauquene Paul of Great Falls, Catcher of Camp Pendelton, CA; grandchildren Angelina Scott, Paul M. Doney, Serena Cuts The Rope; brother John Hickey, Jr., uncle Albert Bachand, and aunt Melvina

Bachand all of North Adams, Massachusetts.

  She is preceded in death by her parents,  and husband Clarence on March 29, 2000.
