Lorraine J. Grabofsky

MALTA -- Saco native Lorraine J. (Newton) Grabofsky, 72, of Malta, who farmed northwest of Loring with her husband until retiring in 1994, died of emphysema Friday at Phillips County Hospital.

Her funeral is 11 a.m. Tuesday at Malta Lutheran Church, with burial in Malta Cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is handling arrangements.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred Grabofsky of Malta; a son, Rick Gradofsky of Hogeland; daughters Jeane Matter of Havre, Kathy Grabofsky of Malta, Karla Ellsworth of Eagle, Idaho, and Brenda Olszewski of Frontier, Sask., Canada; a sister, Mary Williamson of Grants Pass, Ore.; a brother, Archie Newton of Eugene, Ore.; 14 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Grabofsky.

MALTA - Lorraine J. Grabofsky, a homemaker, died Jan. 23, 2004, at the Phillips County Hospital after a lengthy battle with emphysema. She was 72.

A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Malta Lutheran Church with interment in the Malta Cemetery.

Lorraine was born on May 15, 1931, in Saco to Vern and Hazel (Buttolph) Newton. She married Alfred Grabofsky on July 2, 1956, in Malta. They resided on the family farm northwest of Loring until retirement in November of 1994.

She was a member of the Loring Lutheran Church and later the Malta Lutheran Church. She was active in the Loring Ladies Aid and the Malta WELCA. She enjoyed attending family activies, traveling and going to basketball games.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael Grabofsky; her parents; daughter-in-law, Linda Grabofsky; sisters, Wilma Anderson and Alice Newton; and brothers, Roland Newton and Kenneth Newton.

Survivors include her husband, Alfred Grabofsky of Malta; daughters, Jeane (Jim) Matter of Havre, Kathy Grabofsky of Malta, Karla (Jerry) Ellsworth of Eagle, Idaho, and Brenda (Pat) Olszewski of Frontier, Saskatchewan, Canada; sister, Mary (Walt) Williamson of Grants Pass, Ore.; brother, Archie (Chris) Newton of Eugene, Ore.; sister-in-law, Shirley Newton of Livingston; 14 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, four great-grandchildren, four stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
