Herbert M. Williamson

CHINOOK -- Lifelong rancher Herbert M. Williamson, 97, died of natural causes Friday at a Havre hospital. His funeral is 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at American Lutheran Church in Chinook, with burial in Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Martin (Arlene) Williamson of Chinook; daughters Mary Ann Sheppard of Havre, Margie (Don) McKeever of Helena and Agnes Fox of Gilbert, Ariz.; a sister, Sevrie Green Olson of Big Sandy; a brother, Ed Williamson of Chinook; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Herb was born Oct. 18, 1906, in Great Falls, Mont., to Albert Williamson, who had emigrated from Norway, and Lena (Olson) Williamson.

He married Margaret Kane on Dec. 30, 1930, in Havre. Herb spent his life ranching 50 miles south of Chinook on his parents' homestead. He added smaller homesteads to his ranch until selling out in 1983 and moving to Chinook.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, in 1993; a daughter, Dorothy Thornby, in 1993; his parents; and a brother, Gordon.

Memorials are suggested to the Chinook Senior Citizens Center or the donor's choice.

CHINOOK - Herbert M. Williamson, 97, of Chinook died on Friday, July 30, 2004, at Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.

Viewing will be Tuesday at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook. Burial will be in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery of Chinook.

Herb was born on Oct. 18, 1906, at Great Falls to Albert and Lena (Olson) Williamson. He spent his life ranching 50 miles south of Chinook on the homestead of his parents. His father emigrated from Norway.

Herb added smaller homesteads to his ranch until he sold out in 1983 and moved to Chinook.

Herb married Margaret Kane in Havre on Dec. 30, 1930. Margaret died in 1993.
