Harry Taylor
Harry M.
Taylor, 87, passed away peacefully at the Regency of Puyallup Nursing Home in
Puyallup, WA on Monday, March 15, 2004. Cremation has taken place and his
remains will be buried next to his wife and son in the Kuper
Memorial Cemetery at Chinook. A graveside memorial service will be arranged for
June 5 to allow family and friends to attend.
Harry’s parents, Harry “Beech” and Anna
Taylor, homesteaded on a farm eight and a half miles from Turner, and that is where Harry grew up. He worked in Centralia, WA for
WIDCO, the Pacific Northwest’s first major steam-electric generating plant, as
the head maintenance superintendent before retiring in 1982. Previous to that
time, Harry spent a lot of time working on major dams throughout the northwest
and southwest, including Grand Coulee Dam in Washington and the Glen Canyon
Dam in Page, AZ.
While his
health was good, he always visited the Chinook, Harlem and Turner area twice a
year where “good memories” remained in his heart. He usually stayed with his
wife’s sister and her husband, Doris and Paul Hofeldt,
in Chinook. Harry and his wife Marguerite were both members
of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and they once served a
mission in Jackson County, Missouri.
Family and
friends recall how Harry would often say, “I have had a good fulfilling life
with many diverse activities shared with good friends and family along the
way.”
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Lee Paulson
of Big-fork and Carol Jean Larsen of Puyallup, WA; seven grandchildren and
eleven great grandchildren; two nieces and one nephew.
He was
preceded in death by his wife, Marguerite in 1992; and a son, James “Jimmy”
Taylor who died at the age of 25 while serving as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army
on a Chinook helicopter in Viet Nam.
