HELEN HOFELDT
Helen O. Hofeldt, 80, passed away from complications following a stroke
on September 7, 1999, at Benefis
Hospital in Great Falls. Services
will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the American Lutheran Church in Chinook on
Friday, September 10. Memorial donations can be made to the Chinook American
Lutheran Church, or to the Peace Lutheran Church in Great Falls, or to the
charity of one's choice.
Helen was born on April 26, 1919, in Chinook to Jonas and Olive
Sattleen. She was raised with her brothers and sisters on the family ranch in
the Bears Paw Mountains. She attended rural schools and graduated from Chinook
High School in 1937. On June 7, 1941, she married Roy Hofeldt and for the next
30 years they kept busy ranching and raising their five children. They
"retired" from the ranch in 1972 and moved to Lloyd, where Helen was
the Postmaster and general store manager. Roy passed away on November 1, 1985,
and Helen moved to Chinook two years later.
She met Harold Hofeldt and they were married on April 9, 1991, and lived
in Lyman, WY for six years. In October
of 1997 they moved to Great Falls where they enjoyed living until her death.
Helen always loved to be with her family and friends. She was always
active in the communities where she lived--from leading a 4-H Club in the Bear
Paws for 25 years to her weekly quilting sessions at Peace Lutheran Church. At
home she enjoyed gardening, knitting and sewing. She also enjoyed traveling and
camping with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Harold; children, Henry Hofeldt of
Chinook, Jean Harrison of Great Falls, Judy Altenhofen of Arlee, Linda Schieffer
of Billings and Max Hofeldt of Chinook; 11 grandchildren; three step
grandchildren and two great grandsons.

CHINOOK - Helen O.
(Sattleen) Hofeldt, 80, a retired postmaster and lifelong Montana resident,
died Tuesday at a Great Falls Hospital of
complications from a stroke.
Services are 11 a.m. Friday at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook.
Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to
the American Lutheran Church in Chinook or Peace Lutheran Church in Great
Falls.
She was born on April 26, 1919, in Chinook. She attended rural schools and
graduated from Chinook High School in 1937.
She married Roy Hofeldt June 7,
1941, and they ranched for the next 30 years.
They retired from the ranch in 1972 and moved to Lloyd, where she was
the Postmaster and general store manager.
Her husband died Nov. 1, 1985. She moved to Chinook two years
later. She married Harold Hofeldt April 9, 1991. They lived in
Lyman, Wyo. for six years, and had
moved to Great Falls in Oct. 1997.
She had been a 4-H Club leader
in the Bear Paws for 25 years and was active in weekly quilting sessions
at Peace Lutheran Church in Great Falls. She enjoyed gardening, knitting and
