Genevieve Lorraine Tanberg

CLANCY -- Retired Blaine County Treasurer Genevieve Lorraine (Daniel) Tanberg, 92, of Clancy, died of natural causes Friday at a Helena hospital.

A memorial service is 2 p.m. Thursday at the American Lutheran Church in Chinook, with burial in the Kuper Memorial Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include a son, Carl of Helena; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a niece.

Genevieve was born April 11, 1912, in Carlos, Minn., the oldest child of Dennis William and Myrtle (Sweet) Daniel. She was baptized May 7, 1912, at Belle River, Minn. and confirmed at St. Judes in Havre, Mont.

She attended schools at St. Judes in Havre, St. Vincents Academy in Helena, Garden Springs in Spokane, Northern Montana College and Western Montana College.

She taught school for one year in Blaine County, moved to Bremerton, Wash., in 1942 to work in the Puget Sound Navy Yard, returned to Chinook after the war and worked in the Blaine County Treasurer's office, later becoming the Blaine County Treasurer before retiring in 1975.

Genevieve married Henry Clifford Tanberg of Chinook on May 27, 1933 in Lethbridge, Alberta. They lived most of their married life in Chinook but moved to Great Falls in 1981, to Havre in 1985, and she to Helena in 1997.

She was Past Matron of O.E.S. of Chinook, a member of Chinook's American Lutheran Church and of Messiah Lutheran Church in Havre.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter, Jeannine Skones, a granddaughter Lana, her parents, and brothers Ambrose, Laddie and Larry.
