GAY MATTER

    HOGELAND - Gay A. Matter, 59, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2006, in Great Falls, after a two-year struggle from countless complications due to a brain aneurysm.

    Her service will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday in the Turner High School gymnasium, with burial at Wing Cemetery. A reception will follow at the Turner gymnasium. Gay was born Dec. 17, 1946, in Kalispell to Lester and Dorothy Truman. She received her early education in Kalispell and graduated from Flathead County High School in 1964. She earned a bachelor’s degree in special education from Eastern Montana College in Billings. Following graduation, she was employed by the Harlem School District. While living in Harlem, Gay met Art Matter. They married on Dec. 20, 1969. They lived happily on the Matter farm for the next 36 years and were blessed with three daughters. Gay’s voyage through life took her many places, including being an assistant postmaster at the Hogeland Post Office; an active member of the Lucky Ladies; helping Ruth and Aaron Lacox with house and yard care; on the board for the New Horizons of Harlem and later nominated to be chairman. She was devoted to making a difference for veterans through the American Legion Auxiliary. Gay worked her way up from a member, to Montana’s American Legion Auxiliary president and later on to a national appointment. Up until Gay was struck with an unfortunate brain aneurysm, she spent limitless hours working for the greater good for education, community and the family of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was known for her desire to travel, her commitment, and ability to get the ball rolling on anything she set her mind to.

    Gay was preceded in death by parents, Lester and Dorothy Truman; and brother, John Truman. Survivors include husband, Art Matter of Hogeland; daughters, Tiaya Burkhartsmeyer of Helena, Kamra Matter of Reno, Nev., and Cori Matter of Buhl, Idaho; four grandchildren; and many family and friends. Memorials in Gay’s honor may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary of Hogeland, Montana. Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook is in charge of arrangements.

    HOGELAND - Gay A. (Truman) Matter, 59, a homemaker, died of a brain aneurysm Thursday at Peace Hospice in Great Falls.

    A memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday in the Turner High School gym, with burial in Wing Cemetery. Edwards Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Survivors include her husband, Art Matter of Hogeland; daughters Tiaya Burkhartsmeyer of Helena, Kamra Matter of Reno, Nev., and Cori Matter of Buhl, Idaho; and four grandchildren.
