FRED BRANDT, JO DAVIESS COUNTY
FARMER, DIES
Funeral services for Fred Brandt, 82, who died Wednesday, March 5, at
3:30 a.m. in the home of a son, Charles Brandt, in Savanna, following a
lingering illness, were held Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock from the home of
another son, Harry Brandt, who resides north of Elizabeth, and at 2 p.m., from
Schapville Lutheran church. The Rev. E.W. Karason, pastor, officiating at the
services.
The casket attendants were George Buhse, Harry Dittmar, Ernest Cook,
Henry Koehn, Earl Williams, and Joe Ehredt. The choir of the Schapville church
sang, "Saved by His Grace," and "Heaven is Home."
Interment was in the Schapville Lutheran Cemetery.
Fred Brandt, the son of William and Johanna Brandt, was born in
Lauscheu??n, Germany, on Feb. 13, 1859. He came to America in 1860 at the age
of 21 years. He spent the past 62 years
in Jo Daviess county where he was a farmer as long as his health permitted. Mr.
Brandt had been in very poor health for the past year.
On Dec. 31, 1885, he married Miss Dorothy Buhre, who preceded him in
death about 32 years ago. Two children also preceded him in death.
Mr. Brandt is survived by seven children, Mrs. Henry Dotzel, Mrs. Henry
Hoppe, Charles Brandt, and Harry Brandt of the vicinity of Elizabeth;
Henry Brandt of Dundee, and Ernest and
August Brandt of Montana. He leaves four sisters, Mrs. Minnie Koehn of Scales
Mound, Mrs. Sophia Hacker of Apple River, Mrs. August Heltz of Carpenterville,
and Mrs. Lena Ehrler of Dundee. They are also 40 grandchildren and five
great-grandchildren.
