Frances Helen Schafer
HAVRE - Frances Helen (Bough) Schafer, 87, a lifelong Havre resident,
died of natural causes Monday at a Havre hospital.
Rosary is 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Jude's Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is
10 a.m. Friday at St. Jude's, with burial in
Survivors include eight children, Kathy Bessette
of Havre, Jim (Allyson) Schafer of Fort Collins, Colo., Jean (LaMond) Duffin of Van Buren,
Ark., Joan Schafer, Mimi (Tom) Heydon and Barb
Schafer, all of Fort Benton, Pat (Brad) Nemitz of
Ulm, Mont., and Pam (Ken) Nugent of Warrensburg, Mo.; her three sisters, Annamae Somers of Havre and Evelyn Baird and Dorothy (Ed) Majerus of Lewistown; 17 grandchildren and nine
great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Frances was born Sept. 21, 1918, to Ed and Anna Bough of North Havre,
where she attended St. Joe School and graduated from Havre High School in 1936.
On Sept. 13, 1941, she married Alvin T. Schafer, and they farmed north
of Havre two miles from where she grew up.
Frances was a member of the Lay Order of Franciscans, an avid senior
citizen volunteer and was 1988 Senior Citizen of the Year for the State of
She was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Margaret McKinnie.
Memorials in Fran's honor may be made to the St. Jude Parish Center,
