ETHEL SARGENT
Ethel Maion Sargent, 93, died Monday, May 14, 2001 in Havre of natural
causes.
Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church
with Pastor Tim Hauge officiating. Burial will be at the Highland Cemetery with
fellowship to follow at the First Lutheran Church.
Sargent was born April 28, 1909 to Olav and Mari (Haugstad) Svalheim in
Esmond, N.D. Her family homesteaded in North Valley County near Genevieve. She
attended Snake River School in Genevieve, Lutheran Confermation at the Halton
School in summers, and high school in Hinsdale.
She married Lauren Willis Sargent on Oct. 2, 1932 in the Little White
Church in Malta. They lived in various locations, including Kalispell, Chinook
and the last 50 years in Havre.
Sargent was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Salvation Army
Home League all of her life. She contributed by sewing, cooking, baking and
caring for others.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lauren W. Sargent in
1979; son, Claude Lauren Sargent in 1963.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine Kaufman of Havre; sister, Elsie
Borges of Albuquerque, N.M.; one granddaughter and two great-grandsons, all of
Kalispell.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland &
Bonine Funeral Home.

Ethel Maion Sargent, 93, died of natural causes in Havre on Monday, May
14, 2001. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, May 17, at the
First Lutheran Church in Havre with Pastor Tim Hauge officiating. Burial will
follow in the Highland Cemetery.
Services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holland &
Bonine Funeral Home of Havre.
Born on April 28, 1909 , in Esmond, ND, Ethel was the oldest of 10
children born to Norwegian imigrants Olav and Mari (Haugstad) Svalheim. Her
family homesteaded in North Valley County near Genevieve, MT where she recieved
her elementry education at the Snake River School in Genevieve. Her Lutheran
Confirmation was at the Halton School in the summers and attended high school
in Hinsdale.
On October 2, 1932, Ethel
married Lauren Willis Sargent in the Little White Church in Malta. They had one
daughter and one son and lived in various locations, including Kalispell,
Chinook and the last fifty years in Havre. She was a very personable woman and
loved her family and friends. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and
the Salvation Army Home League all of her life. She contributed by sewing, cooking,
baking and caring for others.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine (Bill) Kaufman of Havre; one
granddaughter, Jan Mari of Kalispell; two great gransond, Lauren J. and Curran both of Kalispell; one sister,
Elsie Borges of Albuquerque, NMl.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lauren in 1979;
her son, Claude Lauren Sargent in 1963 and eight siblings.

HAVRE - Ethel Maion (Svalheim) Sargent, 93, a former Malta, Kalispell
and Chinook resident, died of natural causes Monday in Havre .
Her funeral is 10 a.m Thursday at the First Lutheran Church. Burial will
take place in Highland Cemetery, followed by a fellowship at the Church.
Holland & Bonine Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born April 28, 1909 in Esmond, ND. Her family homesteaded in
North Valley County near Genevieve, and she attended Snake River School and graduated
from high school in Hinsdale.
She married Lauren Willis Sargent on Oct. 2, 1932 in Malta. They lived
in various places in Montana including Kalispell and Chinook before settling in
Havre 50 years ago.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the Salvation Army
Home League.
She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking and caring for others.
Her husband died in 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Elaine Kaufman of Havre; a sister, Elsie
Borges of Albuquerque, N.M.; a
granddaughter and two great-grandsons.
A son, Claude Lauren Sargent died in 1963
