Dixie Christina Vickhammer-Gloyne, 71, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005, at the Village Health Care Center in Missoula after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fifth Avenue Christian Church with burial following in the Highland Cemetery in Havre.

Dixie was born in Dodson on March 13, 1934, to Christopher and Lila (Johnson) Vickhammer. She grew up on the Vickhammer homestead north of Wagner.

On April 19, 1953, she married Carl Green in Malta. Dixie and her daughters stayed in Malta for 13 years. Dixie and Carl later divorced.

Dixie married W. John Gloyne in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, on July 7, 1972, and they all resided on the Gloyne ranch near Harlem. Dixie moved into Harlem in 1980 and opened a secondhand pawnshop called The Trading Post in 1981. Many lifelong friends were made at her store, which stayed open until 1998. She had a big yellow bus she loved to take rummaging in Billings to stock her store. Rummaging was her great enjoyment.

In 1999, Dixie moved to Havre, where she had numerous joys. She was secretary at the Havre Fire Department, a member of Green Thumb, and helping at the Haven Shelter and the senior citizens center. The last few years she spent time between Havre and Missoula, enjoying time with her daughters, family, and new extended close friends she met along the way.

Dixie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, W. John Gloyne; and sister, Lily Kramer.

Survivors include her daughters, Carl Rae Green and son-in-law Dan Clement of Missoula, and Ruth (Ed) Hawley of Hays; grandchildren, Chris and Chae Clements of Missoula, Nichole (Nathan) Stanley of Havre, Jaci and Eddie Hawley of Hays; brother, Christopher "Rusty" (Shirley) Vickhammer of Malta; sisters, Juanita (Orville) Jones of Miltonvale, Kansas, and Viola De Sonya of Saco; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

Survivors include daughters Carla Rae Green of Missoula and Ruth Hawley of Hays; sisters Juanita Jones of Texas and Viola DeSonya of Saco; a brother, Christopher "Rusty" Vickhammer of Malta; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. John Gloyne.

The obituary in Saturday's Tribune for Dixie Christina (Vickhammer) Gloyne, 72, a second-hand store owner who died of pancreatic cancer Wednesday in Missoula, should not have listed W. John Gloyne, who preceded her in death, as her husband.
