after a short illness Friday at a Chinook nursing home.

Robert D. (Bob) Holmes, 83, died Sunday,
Nov. 18, 2007, at the Sweet Nursing Home in Chinook after a short illness.
Viewing will take place Friday from 1 to 9 p. m. at the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with a private family burial with military honors at Kuper Memorial Cemetary.
Memorial services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Lloyd Sweet Auditorium of the Chinook High School.
He was born May 15, 1924, the oldest child of Harold and Mildred (Halverson) Holmes. He attended rural grade schools and was a member of Chinook High School class of 1942. He served in the U.S. Navy Air Transport Command stationed at Moffett Field, Calif., during World War II. After service he returned to Chinook and worked for Wallner Furniture for 18 years. He later owned Bobs Drapery and Floor Covering, a business operated for the next 32 years. After retiring he enjoyed spending time in his woodworking shop and tending his yard. He served on the board at the Chinook Senior Citizens Center and was in charge of the Mens Breakfast for a number of years. He made coffee for the early morning coffee group at the Center, which he enjoyed until his illness. He was a member of the Chinook Eagles for 61 years, and a member of the American Lutheran Church.
He married Fern Bosch on Oct. 11, 1953, in Chinook. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He enjoyed the family times together and was proud of all their accomplishments. He was dearly loved and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a greatgrandson, Gavin Vande Sandt.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Fern; daughters, Lynda (Keith) Vande Sandt of Inverness and Nancy Harrison of Havre; son, David of Chinook; two granddaughters; three grandsons; four-great grandchildren; a step-greatgrandson; four sisters, Marie Rindy of Portland, N.D., Arlene Holmes of Sun City, Ariz., Helen Parnell of Chinook, Anna (Jack) Sattleen of Missoula, and two brothers John (Norrie) Holmes of Havre and Richard (Renae) Holmes of Stevensville.
