ARNOLD R. JACKSON

  Arnold R. Jackson, 88, passed away at his home in Missoula on Thursday, April 12, 2001, with his wife Betty at his side. Creation has taken place and a memorial is being planned at Glacier Park for a later date. The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel assisted the family with arragements.

  Arnold was born on February 27, 1913, in Turner, the seventh of 11 children born to Ole and Bertha Jackson, He spent his childhood years in Turner where his parents farmed. After graduating from high school in 1933, he attended Northern Montana College for one year then taught in a one-room school house for two years and worked at Gambles store in Havre.

  He joined the Army in the early 1940's ans was assigned to the last horse cavalry., riding extensively through Mississippi and Texas. After his release, with the onset of World War II, he was recalled and served for the duration of the war in the Army Air Force. After his release he re-enlisted in the Army Air Force as a Master Sargent and served his country around the world, until retiring as a Major in 1962. He was an accomplished photographer who captured many beautiful images with his camera during his worldwide travels.

  After his retirement from the service, he moved his family back to his native Montana, settling in Kalispell where he worked briefly at the Gamble Store and attended Flathead Valley Community College. During the summers he worked as a seasonal customs agent at Port Chief Mountain until his fiinal retirement. He enjoyed warm winters in Mesa, AZ with Betty, his wife of 57 years. His wife and family were the love and light of his life.

  Survivors include his wife, Betty; two daughters, Karen and Ed Kane of Rock Tavern, NY and Claudia and Ric Wilcomb of Missoula; five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; one sister, Eleanor "Jackie" Felton of Chinook; and numerous nieces and nephews.
