Adrian J. Olszewski

   HAVRE - Adrian J. Olszewski, 88, passed away Dec. 14, 2002, at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre, due to natural causes.

   Funeral mass will be Thursday, Dec. 19, at 11 a.m., in Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with burial following at Wing Cemetery. Rosary will be recited Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m., in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials may be sent to St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church or to Northern Montana Care Center Chapel Fund. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

   Adrian John Olszewski was born on March 5, 1914, to Frank and Regina (Ginther) Olszewski on the family homestead near Tweet, Mont. Adrian was sent to Winona, Minn., to attend a Catholic school, living with his Aunt Agnes and grandfather Albert Ginther. His parents would come and visit with him, and during one of these visits, his mother became ill and died there.

   At age 10, her returned to Hogeland to join his father, brother Lambert and grandmother Frances Olszewski on the farm. Adrian then attended school at Glenview through the eighth grade. He liked to tell his children how he and Lambert rode a horse to school, carrying their lunches of lard and sugar sandwiches in an old syrup bucket. Adrian was the first graduating class at Hogeland High School in 1933, and attended a year at Northern Montana College.

   He married Kathleen Leinan on Sept. 24, 1936, in Chinook. They lived and farmed northwest of Hogeland for the first 10 years, and when his father retired from farming, they moved to the family homestead for the next 50 years. In addition to farming, his hobby was gardening, which he tended tirelessly. During the poor crop years, Adrian and Kathleen would move the family to Seattle, where he would work in the shipyards and Northgate Mall. They retired from farming in 1983 and enjoyed traveling in their motor home, fishing and camping with friends and family. In 1996, they moved from the farm to Eagles Manor in Havre and returned to the farm during summer months for the next two years. Adrian spent the last two years living at Northern Montana Care Center in Havre.

   Mr. Olszewski is survived by his wife of 66 years, Kathleen Olszewski of Havre; sons, Ed Olszewski of Great Falls, Joe (Karen) Olszewski of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash., Clarence (Rita) Olszewski of Zap, N.D.; daughter Elaine (Hugh) Hutton of Sidney; sisters, Joan (Mitch) Holman and Doris (Bob) Koth, all of Great Falls; brothers Lambert (Irma) Olszewski of Aurora, Ore., Frank (Roseann) Olszewski of Great Falls; nine grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Ann Olszewski and a sister in infancy, Marion Olszewski.

   HAVRE -- Adrian J. Olszewski, 88, a retired farmer, died of natural causes Saturday at a Havre care center.

   Rosary is 7 p.m. Wednesday at Edwards Funeral Home chapel in Chinook. Funeral Mass is 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church at Hogeland, with burial in Wing Cemetery.

   Survivors include his wife, Kathleen Olszewski of Havre; a daughter, Elaine Hutton of Sidney; sons Ed Olszewski of Great Falls, Joe Olszewski of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., and Clarence Olszewski of Zap, N.D.; sisters Joan Holman and Doris Koth of Great Falls; brothers Lambert Olszewski of Aurora, Ore., and Frank Olszewski of Great Falls; nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.

   Additional survivors include a son-in-law, Hugh Hutton of Sidney; daughters-in-law Karen Olszewski of Mountlake Terrace, Wash., and Rita Olszewski of Zap, N.D.; brothers-in-law Mick Holman and Bob Koth of Great Falls; and sisters-in-law Irma Olszewski of Aurora, Ore., and Rosanne Olszewski of Great Falls.

    Adrian John Olszewski, 88, died of natural causes at the Northern Montana Care Center i n Havre on Saturday, December 14, 2002, and now resides with our Father and all the angels in Heaven. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, December 18, at 7:00 p.m. in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Chinook. Fu­neral Mass will be held at 11:00 am. on Thursday, December 19, in Big Flat’s St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, with burial following in the Wing Cemetery at Hogeland. Memorials are suggested to the St. Thomas Catholic Church or to the North­ern Montana Care Center’s Chapel Fund. Arrangements are by Edwards Funeral Home of Chinook.

   Adrian was born on March 5, 1914, to Frank and Regina (Gin­ther) Olszewski on his father’s homestead in what was then Twete, MT. When he became school age he was sent to Wi­nona, MN to live with his Aunt Agnes and Grandfather Albert Ginther to attend a Catholic School. Frank and Regina spent time in Winona with Adrian dur­ing the time he lived there and during one of these visits when he was 8 years old, his mother became ill and died.

   Adrian spent two more years with his aunt and grandfather, then returned at the age of 10, to Hogeland to join his father, his brother Lambert and his grand­mother Francis Olszewski on the farm. He then attended the Glenview School through the 8th grade. He liked to tell his chil­dren how he and Lambert rode a horse to school, carrying their lunches of lard and sugar sand­wiches in an old syrup bucket.

   He attended Hogeland High School and was a member of the first class to graduate from there, the Class of 1933. After high school he attended Northern Montana College in Havre for one year.

   On September 24, 1936, Adrian married Kathleen Leinan and they lived and farmed north­west of I-Iogeland for the first 1 0 years of their marriage. When his father retired from farming, Adrian and Kathleen moved their family to the homestead and lived there for the next 50 years.

   In addition to farming, he had his garden, which he tended tirelessly. It was a wonderful pastime and hobby for him. His children remember him being in the garden well past the time when everyone else had called it a day. sometimes crops were poor. so Adrian and Kathleen would pack up then family and go to Seattle for the winter so they could work and earn money to plant their crops in the spring. One winter he worked in the shipyards and two winters he worked at the Northgate Mall. He also worked at the grain ele­vator in Hogeland at various times throughout the years.

   He retired from farming in 1983 at the age of 69. He and Kathleen had a motorhome and enjoyed many fun and happy times camping and fishing with friends or traveling with one or another of their children. They left the farm in October of 1996 to reside in the Eagles Manor in Havre, traveling to the farm dur­ing the next two summers. For the last two years Adrian has lived at the Northern Montana Care Center.

   Survivors include his wife of 66 years. Kathleen, of Havre; sons, Ed Olszewski of Great Falls, Joe (Karen) Olszewski of Mount Lake Terrace, WA, and Clarence (Rita) Olszewski of Zap, ND; daughter, Elaine (Hugh) Hutton of Sidney; brothers, Lambert (Irma) Olszewski of

Aurora, OR and Frank (Roseann) Olszewski of Great Falls; sisters, loan (Mick) Holman and Doris Bob) Koth all of Great Falls; nine grandchIldren; 14 great grandchildten four step grand children and nine step great grandchildren.

   He was preceded in death by is parents; his stepmother. inn; and infant sister Marion.
